How FNAF Fakes 3D
In this video, I break down how Five Nights at Freddy’s creates the illusion of a 3D camera using nothing but 2D images and some clever shader math. We’ll walk through every step — from UV distortion basics to trigonometric projection — to build a fully functional FNAF-style camera system in Unity using Shader Graph.
This is the first episode in a series where we build a complete 2D FNAF-style game from scratch using real programming and logic.
For a detailed explanation of the math and shader nodes used, you can download the full annotated PDF version of the Shader Graph here.
